When these assessments involve surveys with open questions, it requires the attention of people with expertise in the corresponding field, in order to extract usable information. Advanced Curriculum Mapping - Beyond Aligning Learning Objectives and Placing Measures
In this interactive session, participants will work together to advance and expand their thinking about the curriculum mapping process and the uses of curriculum maps beyond mere placement of course-embedded measures. Participants will consider the utility of accurate curriculum maps as opposed to ideal curriculum maps. Further, they will explore additional applications for curriculum maps in the assessment and curriculum management processes as well as in other areas of strategic importance including leveraging emerging technologies in courses and identifying curriculum coverage of the school鈥檚 designated areas of societal impact. Specific examples of advanced course alignment matrices for gathering curriculum mapping information will be provided as will examples of the resulting curriculum maps capturing information beyond the depth of learning objective coverage and the placement of course embedded assessment measures.

Research indicates that centralized, highly engaged faculty and staff systems are crucial for creating sustainable accreditation environments. Schools with active collaboration foster situated learning, where improvement happens through hands-on participation. In contrast, low engagement can lead to isolation, burnout, and conflicts over faculty qualifications, challenging long-term sustainability.

Aligning AoL Competencies with Authentic Assessment Practices
The session will consider the growing trend in higher education institutions in implementing authentic assessment practices within their taught provision. The session seeks to explore this trend in the context of maturing assurance of learning systems to question whether existing competencies would strategically and operationally fit with such authentic assessment instruments. The discussion will acknowledge the advantages of authentic assessment in a challenging academic integrity landscape alongside the strengths of this approach for implementing durable skills complementary to both direct and indirect AoL measurements. A series of scenarios will be posed where both AoL data and authentic assessment implementation can be used as drivers for continuous development. This provides an opportunity for attendees to reflect on not only their current AoL system but also to question how this would align with a more authentic assessment strategy moving into the future.
